It is inside where the lock cylinder is.

Its what this piece goes into, however if this is off one spot then it will cause the trouble you describe. What this gear goes into controls the switch.

How would I go about turning it back a notch? Also, I did turn the key inside the new cylinder when I first took it out of the box...does that really matter...I don't feel like any permanent tumblers fell into place, it has the same resistance it always had...

It just sits in there. Take the cylinder back out then take a pick or magnet and remove that piece. Study it a moment, it will make sense when you look at it.

I got my buddy over here with his camera phone to film what's going on: https://*******/sNVG

Problem is that gear doesn't just come out with a magnet or picktool... this one is definitely the first NON straightforward problem I've had to fart around with on my beloved F250

While that steering wheel is off I might just get me a replacement one of those as well, any recommendations for something that feels like "ford racing" -- I already don't have cruise control or an airbag so all of that really wont be missed anyhow...

Thanks for your help guys

I would like to go ahead and say that is your problem. The instructions when you take the lock cylinder out of the box, says not to turn the key without it being installed. Maybe you just got lucky though!

Similar problem

What is this tab called and how would you replace it? I believe the plastic around this tab broke in my ignition.

This thread is 8 years old and the original poster probably never had been on this website again. If you start a new one and describe all your symptoms of your truck there’s plenty of folks here who will be happy to help
