How did you end up doing your dash cluster?

 

For now I just re-used the cluster from the donor car. First I trimmed it down as much as I could, cut a hole in the F100 dash bezel, stuck a piece of lexan to the back, and screwed the donor cluster to the back of that. I'd rather have some retro styled modern gauges, but this works in the meantime.

 

man that thing is looking great I am some kind of jealous. Makes me wonder if I should have kept the rolling chassis from the CV and approached it the same way as you did. Oh well too late now! So pretty much you are putting CV guts into the truck. I see the steering wheel, was that pretty simple? I am not quite at that point yet. Any plans for the heat and AC?
If it gets to cold up there come on down to the Gulf Coast and help out with mine, it was about 65 degrees and sunny yesterday.

I wouldn't say it was simple, you can check out my blog for some more details. Had to trim the dash, trimmed a bit on the column shift linkage, used part of the Vic dash where the column bolts to... Used part of the Vic firewall where the column bearing mounts. Used the Vic brake pedal assembly too. Just kind of figured it out as we went along.
For heat I'm currently using the f100 heater core and blower motor. Haven't figured out AC yet but will probably use some sort of compact under dash unit.

Your truck is totally cool. I can see some guys copying your idea in the future. Really like the hubcaps too!


I went a different route - S10 4x4 for all wheel drive yet low to the ground. All I had left of the original truck was the cab and bed. A lot of people seem to think frame swaps are taking the easy way out, but I found it really challenging marrying newer technology with the old. Just getting the steering column set up correctly took a ton of time.


I'm amazed you did it so quickly. Bet it goes like a bat out of hell!

 

what did do for your radiator and cooling

did you have to move the engine back into the firewall?

Great project looks fantastic.
I put the cv front suspension in my 58 F100, the motor, transmission and IRS out of a 93 t_bird completed the running gear. I fitted the digital dash into my original bezel. Now looking to paint, and my truck was repainted about 15 years ago and the factory yellow was changed to pastel lime.
I have been unable to find the original yellow paint code as this is a Canadian built truck.
The factory paint code is 63 which is the yellow and white, have you been able to find a mix design for the paint code for your truck

I'm going to have to use that Elwood Blues quote! You're right, frame swaps aren't any kind of easy way out when you're mixing old and new.

Did the S10 match the F100 wheelbase? was the track width similar? I haven't heard of an S10 used on a fridge before.

 

I left the original crown vic setup in place. The engine is what located the body, we just shoved the body all the way up to the back of the engine.

What digital dash brand or model did you use?
I haven't looked into paint, if I ever get around to paint I'll probably go with a dark blue & white.

The 93 t-bird digital dash was modified to fit behind the 58 bezel, the check engine light on the modification shows up as the check seat belt light.
I found a guy that had a water cutting table, so I made up some acad drawings as to what I wanted, including the 2 raised highlights around the dash, worked out great.
Tried to send pics to another party and they did not go through
