Being a carbed engine does not mean it didn't have a computer. None of the 4 bbl engines had a carb, but a lot of the 2bbl 351w engines did have a computer, along with a lot of the 1 bbl 300 sixes. I don't believe the 460 ever had a computer till it went efi though.

The 87 351 and 460 had the holley 4180 and no computer. I have one of each.

The 4bbl was on the 83-87 460 and the 84-87 351w HO. Neither have computers. I believe the 1 and 2bbl trucks were the only 80's carb'd trucks to have computers, but I'm not sure about the 351m and 400 trucks. They may have been computer free 2bbl trucks as well. Then there's the 85-86 302 EFI trucks for those that want a more modern engine.

I need to proof read my posts a little better. Thanks.

I don't believe the M/400 ever had computers, unless the CA ones did. Rusty's and Dad's engines, 1981 M's, had standard, non-feedback, 2150's. But the two 1982's I had, both with W's, had feedback 2150's and a 'puter under the seat.

I love my 80s fords. I am in eastern Oregon so smog is not an issue, that being said the engine compartment in my 80's are extreamely simple with tons of room to work on the engine. Another advantage is the surplus parts available. The junk yards are full of 80s fords and in exceptionally good shape.

Yes, here in eastern Oregon there are plenty of 80s fords in junk yards and out on the farms, but there are still a few items that are hard to find. One was a Standard tilt steering column in good condition, the other is an F for my factory 1980 aluminum tailgate insert.
The other day I walked out into the wrecking yard and found a complete 1985 ford 4x4 short bed single cab that the body was almost perfect on. I tried to get them to sell me the whole truck but they wouldn't do it.

I am surprised. We took a big hit with Obama's cash for clunkers. All these trucks qualified. That's what saved the little 86 ranger I have now. I knew the guy who had it, and he wanted to trade it in the clunker program. He only paid $700 for it and I think the gov was going to give him $2000 toward a new vehicle if he traded one in, but the little ranger's gas mileage was too good and it didn't qualify. Eventually I ended up with it after he could not get the brakes fixed on it.

I was down in Florida and needed a injection line for my 89 diesel, and I must have went to 6 or 7 junkyards in Pensacola before I came across one that had a line they would sell me. One of them even told me they had what I needed, but it was a cash for clunkers truck and I would have to wait before I could get any parts off it.
