you're talking about the icp sensor ....driver side....top of the block. Right?
was under the impression that if that sensor was bad and you disconnected it, truck would start but run rough? I have not replaced that sensor as it is fairly new and is not leaking. I have read that the icp and ipr communicate with each other? I guess it could be bad without the telltale oil in the plug Right?

ICP is injection control pressure; the hydraulic pressure supplied by the high pressure oil pump. That pressure is what actually causes the injectors to send fuel out through the nozzle when the injector is actuated by the injector driver module (IDM). The ICP sensor monitors the pressure in that system, and must see 500 psi minimum ICP before the PCM will send a fuel delivery command signal to the IDM. There are several possible causes for low ICP, but we don't know for sure that is your problem yet.

You should be able to start the truck with ICP unplugged. That is how I have diagnosed it, that is how all the smart guys tell us to test it.

With it unplugged it will idle normally but run rough on higher rpms since some default amount is supplied it it's absence.

I would check your fuel pressure. You said you checked for fuel to the bowl but the fpr may not be working correctly. At a minimum, open the drain after you turn the key on and make sure you have a pressurized stream coming out the drain tube.

What did you pull the codes with? Whatever it was, can it monitor live OBD data?

I understand. If you happen to have a 0-3000 psi mechanical gauge and a -5 ORB adapter for it, you could at least rule out or confirm low ICP as a possible cause. There are unused ports to the high pressure oil rail on both heads that can be used as test ports.

Happy New year guys.......well for some!
Was finally able to get my truck on a scanner after many days of troubleshooting.
Diesel mechanic phoned me back yesterday an gave me the news. Hpop only pushing 50psi. Very disappointing as it is a 40 month old t500 with less than 40k miles on it.
Currently trying to contact Joey through Clay for info as to what could have went wrong.
Feel like it has to be internal as i know of trucks with leaking hpops that can still build enough pressure to start.
Will let you guys know more when i find out more....Thanks to all the guys who were helping me out!

Try a new IPR first. That just may be the problem. And if not send Joey the pump and he'll rebuild it then use the new IPR. I think the HPOP is life time. I have one of the first and am still going strong.

Thanks Bonanza.
I replaced the ipr . Brand new one on it. And I hope you are correct with your assumption and hope joey will rebuild it under warranty. In the meantime I have feelers out locally looking for a used pump. Dont care to have to drop 650.00 on a pump from ford when a used pump can get me on the road again (temporarily) ,then I hopefully can get the t500 repaired and reinstall it at my leisure....when time and temp permit.

Hey Bill,
Glad you got it figured out. Are you gonna change the pump or let the shop do it?

Hi Paul,
Looking like I will Probably have the shop do it. I did the last swap but since then I have lost my garage. It was on my dads property and he moved into a condo. Hated like hell to see it go......many times i have wished we still had it. 30x30, two bays, fully equipped, heat and ac, bathroom with shower for those extra filthy jobs.......really miss it!
Anyway, trying to get a used pump as a temp fix until i can find out from joey if he will warranty it , since I still believe something internal gave way. Thanks again for you help!
Bill

You could have the shop put 12 volts directly to the IPR solenoid and crank it over. If the pressure comes up, you could have a defective solenoid, a wiring problem or a defective PCM.
