1996 F250 Hazard Lights

I apologize if this has been asked and answered but I need some help.
I have a 1996 F250 that the previous owner installed a trailer brake into. When they did they disconnected the hazard light switch in the steering column. I attempted to reconnect it and that did not fix the problem. I am at a loss as to what to do. My question is can I bypass that switch and install a different switch? How would that work? The turn signals and brake lights all work. I just do not want anything else messing up. Thank you for any help that can be given.
