What is this?

I was working under the hood the am and was bringing the rpm's up checking my fuel pressure. When I heard a ticking noise ever time I touched the throttle and brought the rpm's up. ends up it was coming from this? What is it and what does it do? It is conected with an electrical plug and looks like vacuum hose going to the throttle body.

CANP = Canister Purge solenoid. As noted above it's part of the evaporative emission system. Short story: it is commanded open at certain times to vent the gas vapor stored in the charcoal/vapor canister to the intake of the engine. The vapor comes from the fuel tank(s).
