ps swap gonna happen
Ok, i was going to swap out my idit for a t444e but fell upon a 89 that has a 97 powerstroke stuck in it, i am gonna tear it all out of the 89 and put in my 90, main reason is i dont like crew cab, but obviously all the parts are there to do the swap....now the "no brainer" of this story is the idi is a turd and to make it not a turd is very expensive and not enough test time on performance parts to prove reliability, so having that said i plan on running a 4" turbo back exhaust"3inch" dp, ts 6position, tymar intake, hopefully get close to 300 at the rear wheels with the zf5 tranny

I just dynod my truck last week and it IMO runs about as well as a stock injector truck will run. Makes 29psi and puts out a nice haze on hard accel. It made 200hp 390lbft.
Depending on dyno you might see a little more or less.that dyno is usually stingy comparing to others.

As much as I love my Powerstroke, I can tell you without ANY question that upgrading a PSD costs INFINITELY more than upgrading an IDI. The IDI will cost you about $1500 for new injectors, injection pump, and turbo, and then you've basically doubled it's power / longevity / dependability. You'll spend that much alone in just injectors on the PSD. You can get a LOT of power from a PSD, but it's not cheap power. One upgrade needs another supporting upgrade, and on and on and on. So when I say infinitely more expensive, I mean it. Once you spend money upgrading something on your PSD, you'll never go back. You just keep spending more and more money on it upgrading everything you can think of. It doesn't stop.

the hand is healing slowly Glenn.
i now have new pains, i had the left knee done on thursday. they took close to 62 CC's of nasty looking liquid out if it, and shot 6 CC's of lubricating gel back in.
but they had to go through a muscle to get a clear shot around the tendons, ligaments, bone spurs, and arthritis.
so it feels like someone was playing drums on it using sledgehammers instead of drum sticks.

Like its a bad thing lol?

And O.P. expressed concerns with lack of track record with IDI performance parts. I know it can be done to build a decent IDI, but it's still nowhere near as expensive as a PSD build-up will turn into.

IMO power stroke is just a much better platform even in turd stock form. But the world is full of people that do not feel like me and that is great. It would be boring otherwise..

DIY intercooler +-500
Stage one injectors 1200
chip 400
hpop upgrade 450
So, 2500ish for 300rwhp. Then a 2-400 more for gauges. The mods can stop anywhere you want to stop them if you stay with a stage one injector. If you don't tow a bunch the IC could wait. The hpop isn't completely necessary if you don't tow a lot, but will help power.
Honestly a good chip with nothing else done will be a big step up from the IDI. Nothing wrong with the IDI imo, but its just not a powerful motor.
