GM guy looking to buy my first Ford

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra regular cab that I bought new and has been great to me. I'm looking at buying a 2004 to 2008 F150 Supercrew (I like the size and looks), but am really leery about the 5.4L.

I'm here to learn so I can be an informed buyer.

I am also a convert from Govt. Motors. If you can, try for a 2008 or newer 5.4. The spark plug design was improved for that model year. Otherwise, just plan on paying to have the plugs changed every 100k miles by someone who has the Lisle tool kit to remove the pieces.

I bought a 2008 Expedition with a 5.4 at 128k. It runs great and has good power (but it isn't like my F150 5.0). We pulled coil pack and the plugs had already been changed.

Go to YouTube and look for Ford Tech Makuloco. He has some great videos on how to do things on the 5.4.

I had a 2005 F150 with the 5.4L engine. It was a good truck. Very solid. Still, Ford went to the new engines for a good reason, both the 5.0L and 3.5 EcoBoost are miles ahead.
