Sorry, can't help it, that drives me nuts. Everyone seems to misspell one of the most commonly recognized engine names out there.

There is no such thing as a Cummings engine.

For me it pencils out in favor of my pocket book over the span that I keep vehicles (10 yrs). In the right package diesel mpg can far exceed equivalent gasser mpg such that cost difference in fuel doesnt amount to much (geographic location fuel price differences are also a factor that can make it not work out as well). Same can be said for maintenance items.

My '12 SD with a 6.7 routinely gets 21 to 23 mpg at posted hwy speeds ( factory). A similarly equiped SD can't even break a 15 mpg average on its best day.

If you are a buyer that changes vehicles every 2-5 years the a diesel may not be a good choice (depending on miles).

BTW the difference in weight between gas motors and diesel isn't nearly as significant as it used to be in similarly equipped vehicles.

Time will tell which way the market goes.

For me, if my needs change, I will not be in the market for a Ford 1/2 ton pickup ever in the future unless it has a diesel option or has a V-8 in it.

I haven't heard anything about Ford dropping the V8 in the F150, have you?

With the cost of gasoline going down, if you are just getting a truck to drive day to day and dont tow or haul. Then you can buy any truck..V8 or EB because they really get the same MPG in real world driving. You can even get an Ecodiesel and come out about the same due to that fact that it really does get far superior real world MPGs. But that advantage has diminished due to diesel fuel being more costly right now.
Now then, if you tow or haul more often, but not enough to require a HD truck, then you are better off with a V8 or Ecodiesel because both get better MPGs when under load than the EB.
So it realy comes down to person pref if you are not a tower or hauler.

I miss the days when a diesel was simple. I'd buy something like an old 6.2 or 6.9/7.3 in a pickup in a heartbeat. Simple, reliable, good fuel economy.

I find it funny that a lot of people will criticize GTDI engines because they are "too complicated" and full of unproven technologies, yet they will buy a modern diesel that also has direct injection, turbocharging ...

I'd take an ecoboost any day over a diesel with injectors that are more than I make in a week (a single injector ...), DEF that needs constant filling and all sorts of pollution control. Sure, a mechanical injection diesel would be better in my book but that ship sailed about the time I was born.

I think you'd better try and find a new job if you aren't making $200 in a week.

I'm pretty sure 6.7 injectors are a lot more than 200$, and the likelihood of it being just a single injector and nothing else are slim.

I was thinking 6.0's. Never priced out injectors for the 6.4 or 6.7.

An injector for a 6.7 is ~$400 or so? A lot less than what I make in a week - but repairs on modern diesels are just crazy.

Sure are, few years back my 6.0 cost me right around 8 grand in repairs at christmas time. I don't own diesel trucks anymore. If I could afford a brand new vehicle I would be looking at the Titan xd though. Drove a 2010 Titan for work for 8 months and really liked driving it. Always helps when you don't have to pay for the repairs to be able to enjoy driving a vehicle though!
