On a happier note, I made an overhead radio mount and then revised it and made it better.

I mounted the CB in my truck similar, except I just mounted in directly to the metal trim panel that runs there lol.
In my Merc, I have a Baofeng UV-5R with the batterly eliminator, so I clipped it's belt clip to the trim panel where the seat belt exits, and the speaker mic to the top of that same trim panel near the ceiling, and ran a dual outlet 12v power connection and velcro'd it to the lower part of that trim panel. Allows the radio to be moved around for use, tuck out of the way of the driver and a rear passenger when not, and also adds a power outlet to the backseat. It's connected to a small Nagoya magnet mount antenna on my trunk, which I plan to upgrade this year. I also plan to upgrade to a Baofeng BF-F9+ which is a handheld that pushes 8W. I like using the handhelds because it means I can take it out of the car and run it on batteries if I need to.
I previously ran a positive and negative terminal under the dash using some parts from radioshack and an 8ga wire for each box, so all I have going through the fire wall is those two 8ga wires. Makes life simple. Near future I'll be running some fog lights that will double as strobe lights, so there will be the wires for them going through the firewall as well.
