narrowed down to a vacuum leak

Not loosing any more coolant, guess it was just air being purged with the bubbles. I have been seeing some vibration with the motor at idle. Also when I start the truck it has a high idle for about 20 seconds then calms down. I hear a very very very slight misfire through the tail pipe very randomly. I finally got some money and wanted to know the best way to go about finding this leak? 1993 f150 4.9 300

I will be replacing fuel filter, air filter, and most likely cap and rotor, will clean the injectors with maybe seafoam. I will run the codes at autozone when I go get my new parts.

Autozone won't be able to run your codes on your 93, but the good news is you can do it yourself with just a paperclip or a short length of wire.

Find this, located on the drivers side front fender, usually under a cover that says DIAGNOSTIC PORT or something I'm sure someone will correct me on.

Attach a jumper wire (or paper clip) between these two.

Hop inside the truck, turn the key, and watch the check engine light flash. Count the number of flashes. I like to have my phone on me to record it, in case I miss one. You can also perform an on demand running test by starting the engine.

Here's some light reading:

EEC IV Self Test hookup

EEC IV 3 digit codes

If you navigate around that site, it will tell you all you need to know about testing and retrieving trouble codes.

Also, the easiest method to check for a vacuum leak is a can of Throttle Body Cleaner. Spray around certain areas, and see if there's a change in engine RPM with the engine running. Also, check on that white vac line near the blower motor that always rots itself away.

Welp, I finally got around to figuring out how to decipher the codes and I got the 634 code after the interment or whatever. Any ideas how to fix this? No wonder my truck sorta clunks when I shift from park to drive etc

[QUOTE=copen93;14932657]Welp, I finally got around to figuring out how to decipher the codes and I got the 634 code after the interment or whatever. Welp I got some bubbles in my coolant again, the mixture isnt right from what I know so I am guessing my coolant is turning brown because of the rust, although it can be ... oil 😒 I am going to do the running test tomorrow.
