Agreed, but this truck is not my daily driver and I just can't afford a good one. Although, it looks like RockAuto has the motorcraft one for $92. Might order me one after Christmas, just for peace of mind.

Nice! And thanks! I have spent a lot at RockAuto. Between the truck and 2 fox body mustangs, I keep them pretty busy lol! Save a lot of money, too! A discount on top of that is even better!

lots of horror stories here about these aftermarket units being junk, and the fact that your parts store showed you 3 bad ones, right out of the box, confirms it ... rather than find yourself stranded on a dark rainy night, you should try to find a used motorcraft module from a wrecker as a backup.

That's not a bad idea...keep one in the glove box! Advance Auto is the place that had 3 bad ones. The AutoZone one tested ok out of the box. Doesn't mean I trust it, but a good warning to stay away from the Advance Auto modules! They're evidently having issues.
