Replacing the Starter

I need to replace the starter on my 1977 F-250CS, PS,AT, 400. Never done one before, is it as straight forward as it seems or are there issues I need to concern myself with. Thanks

1. Disconnect the ground lead on the battery!!!!

That's about it. .. Otherwise, it's a straightforward R & R (Remove & replace).

Make sure to put a little blue loctite on the bolt threads. And if they are anything like what was on mine, can't hurt to get some brand new grade 8 hardware in there.

Im pretty sure HIO Silver's saying disconnect the negative so nothing arcs while you are removing the starter..

Ding.. Ding.. Ding! We have a winnah! Exactly.

It is probably the most basic safety precaution.

When installing, make sure the starter is firmly up against the bell housing - make sure the plate is clean - tighten the bolts evenly, so as not to break the starter ears.
