New to the forum. Not new to old iron!

First thing I did was get the shop manual and parts and accessories catalog. They sure are invaluable!

Apparently I beat a couple of people who were ready to take her home. I believe someone else was going to drive up this weekend and load her onto a trailer for a trip back to Long Island. Perhaps that was you!

She's going to get a great home! Just ordered new front tires and ignition parts from mid fifty. I'll have her purrrrring in no time!

The MidFifty tray looks like a good idea, but if Ray is using a 24F in his truck without mods, I'd sure think it has to fit yours. You undoubtedly would need to modify the holddown somewhat, but I'd guess the original is pretty rotten by now anyway.

Agreed. I don't want to make an unnecessary purchase and will investigate that battery. And surprisingly this truck is quite solid including the battery tray. Some typical cab rot around the drip rail, a few spots on the fenders, passenger door bottom and hood front is all I need to be concerned with. All will be properly patched. The cab floor is 99% clean. I just need to do some work by the driver's side cab mount. Thanks again for everyone's super input!

Mid-fifty sells battery hold downs for 53 thru 56. And I think each year is different.

Are they for the stock batteries or modern ones? The stock holddowns used on BonusBuilts don't fit modern batteries worth a damn.

Sorry for my late response. The 24 group battery fits perfectly. Got a Gold series from Advance Auto for a song. Great call on the size!

Took a look at the Long Island Craigslist ads. He sure wants a lot of money for those doors! That's more than twice what I paid for the truck. But considering the rarity of them it may be a good deal. But I'm doing the patch work myself. Thanks for the links!

I'm rebuilding the carb, water and fuel pumps currently. I ordered a new alternator and drive belt. Put in new plugs and plug wires and rebuilt the distributor. Hoping to get the old girl running this week!

consider a group 31 battery. it's a tractor battery. has more capacity and is cheaper than typical automotive batteries.
