Show & Tell - Aftermarket tailgate / bed steps
I intentionally did not order the tailgate step on my truck because I was convinced that the stripper pole would be in the way or cause problems when folded down and that the step itself would end up rattling. A few fellas here chimed in that this was the case with theirs - so maybe a good choice.
That said, this is a relatively tall truck and the old knees are having a tough time of crawling in on the tailgate then standing up.
I recall seeing aftermarket steps on another thread but I will be doggoned if I can find them.
I don't want this thread to turn into a "I love my factory step" thing...
If you wouldn't mind, please show us your aftermarket or home made solutions..
Thanks

I recall seeing an angular bar that fit in behind the spare tire and had the step just below the corner of the rear bumper..
Thanks for posting the link tho!

Maybe this one from Northern Tool
Northern Tool "Traxion Tailgate Ladder, Model# 1-00040" : Questions, Answers, How To, FAQs, Tips, Advice, Answers, Buying Guide
Or this one from Westin
Westin Automotive - Truck-Pal Tailgate Ladder=
Although not sure if you need solid ground? Take along a piece of 2x6 to keep the legs from sinking in??

Those are all options, but take valuable space to store or would become rattles probably as bad as the factory step..
I was originally looking for something that came off the corner of the back bumper, but just now found this SlideStep which I think just may be the ticket..
The SlideStep Truck Bed Step tailgate step enables you to easily step into the rear of truck bed - Graham Custom Truck Accessories, LLC
Yes, it could become a rattle as well, but at least it would be under the truck and not in the bed. Plus it takes no room to store. The ad says it will support 400# so I'm good there by a pretty good margin...
Does anyone have anything like this or any reviews they want to share of the SlideStep?

I don't know... The $200 would not be a bad price for something that's up to the task and doesn't take any of my bed or interior space to store..
I've called and talked with the dealer. He's going to get us the right part number for the new Super Duty...
Meanwhile - still looking for other alternatives...

What about something like this?
AMP Research Bed Step Tailgate Step - Best Price on AMP BedStep Tail Gate Step for Trucks
It folds up close to the bumper when not in use and then drops down to the side of the tail gate so you can step up on it and then into the bed.
It mounts on the drivers side to the OEM bumper mounts.
