1993 f150 5.0l engine troubles

I have a 93 f150 with a 5.0l and auto trans. when the truck is cold it works good and has lots of power but after about 20 mins the motor starts working like bag of smashed hammers and when shifting between gears it smashs into gears. where do I begin

the dash reads 190,000 km . also before this all started to happen the truck wouldn't down shift properly. felt like it was always in to high of a gear

Check for codes. That's the first step. Is the CEL on?

Do you have the E4OD or AOD trans? Is the Overdrive Cancel switch on the shifter lever?

the cel does come on and it sometimes blinks. unsure what trany it is at the moment. it has the o/d button on the shift lever. truck is a short wheel base flareside so it should have some get up and go to er

I have a ford code reader that reads the beeps. I just forget how to use it properly

You have the E4OD transmission. It is completely electronic. I forgot to ask if the O/D light was blinking. If it is, then there are stored/pending codes for the transmission.

Yes, on the code reader. Use it or find a jumper wire and check for codes free. Post them here so we can help you.

I ran the codes with a equus code reader. the 1 that beeps with a light. I believe the series of numbers I got was :
116636121114
I got this series of number twice followed by 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 etc. I hope I did this correct. what codes would this mean

also I should note that I have drained and removed the radiator along with the rad support

only one that I see is your 121 throttle pos sensor out of range. Anyone know if that should that be "out of range" on start? all others look like sensors too cold (basic start up codes)

116 - Engine Coolant (ECT) sensor out of range – ECT
636 - Transmission Oil Temperature (TOT) sensor out of range
121 - Throttle Position (TP) sensor out of range – TPS
114 - IAT sensor out of range – IAT

I dont think there are 2 digit codes on our ECU's. I got the same computer in mine.

The OP's truck should have three digit codes, Ford started transitioning from two digit codes to three digit in 1991. No vehicle will ever have a mix of two and three.

Codes 114, 116 and 636 are caused by not warming up the engine/transmission before running the KOEO tests.

The code to focus on is 121 (Closed throttle TPS voltage higher or lower than expected) Get a meter, then verify the TPS signal output with the key On and the engine off is between 0.6 to 1.0 VDC.

the tests I did were koeo tests as the rad is removed atm. would a bad tps sensor cause all my troubles?
