substitute for emergency brake

substitute for emergency brake
My emergency brake doesn't work so I was thinking of using one of those one of those valves that people use to do burn-outs. Its a valve that shuts off the brakes to the front after you pump the brakes up. Or I could use it on the front too. Or even have two of 'em. I forget what they're called. Has anyone used one for that?

Substitute for a e brake....block of wood AKA "chalks", scotch block, roll stops...nerfs.
Its called a "line lock" and yes they are great, but I have also heard that they can bleed off over time. Some guys use them when they do a rear disk brake conversion, because some conversions do not come with a e brake capability.
Wildwood make one, Summit racing has some line locks too.Wilwood High-Performance Disc Brakes - Porportioning Valves & Pressure Valves

X2 on just be safe and fix yours. What is the problem? Its either in the foot pedal, cables, or the set up in the rear brake hub.
E Brake-Pay attention to where the cable splits and goes from one to two cables. There are two different set ups.
Here is what the Ford parts catalog calls for:

This lamp has nothing to do with the emergency (parking) brake.

Applications: 1968/79 F100/350, Bronco and Econoline & Misc Passenger Cars.

Listing all the sources for these parts that Mike and I typed months, even years ago...means that most of them will not longer have any, causing people to make unnecessary phone calls.
If you're going to list sources for the part numbers you type, you should verify by using rearcounter.com & PartsVoice.com...that the sources still have them.

I always liked the idea of a line lock. Locking up all four wheels is a lot more positive, especially if your going to pull something out with winch. They've been used for years on large construction forklifts and military trucks, I've never heard of one bleeding off. The great added bonus is it's a great security device, hell you can park your truck with the windows down and the keys in the ignition and bet it'll be there when you come back!

Agree, best to fix it as original. The line lock will have some leakage and over time will let go... hour, day, week or month who knows? Not good to park it and come back and find it gone.
Rock Auto lists replacement cables and Inline tube probably has or can make original appearing versions if that matters. I bet NAPA and AZ can order parts also.

I guess I'm the only guy on here who leaves his truck in gear and sets the parking brake...
It should be cheaper, easier, and faster to fix the original set up. I would prefer to do that AND get a line lock, because chicks dig them! Parking brakes don't generally work well to keep you from rolling backwards, like on a boat launch ramp, in that instance I'd have a lot more faith in a line lock.
