Will F 151 on my 78 Ford F 150 Title get me some grace at Emissions in Maricopa County, Arizona?
I just brought my Fathers 1978 Ford F150 300 Engine from Oklahoma to Arizona this weekend to be my daily driver. I went by emissions to see what would be required of a 1978 Ford F150 with a 4.9L 300cid L6. I was told it needed a CAT, EVAP, and PCV.
When I got to Oklahoma last Tuesday night I crawled under the pickup to find out that it DID NOT have a catalytic convertor nor a vented gas tank, vent line, or a Evap Canister. It does have the PCV.
So Monday I am headed to emissions so I can go get it registered here in Maricopa County, AZ.
I noticed that on the Title it is says it is a F151. What? A misprint? Then I did some reading here on the forums and found out that it is a HEAVY Half and that this was a way to get past emission requirements in the 1970s. What I gathered was that it has to do with the GVWR. The GVWR is 6150 (Front GVWR 2660) and (Rear GVWR 3750).
So my 1st question is will this F151 on the title get me some grace or around the emissions requirements her in AZ?
If not I know I can buy the parts needed to add the EVAP from LMC. A new fuel tank with top vent, check valve, steel vent line to run to the canister, charcoal canister, and new ECC fuel cap.
I will need a picture of how to run lines from the Charcoal Canister. Can anyone guide me to one for a 1978 Ford F150 4.9L 300cid L6
I can also add a catalytic converter. I can get one at Auto Zone for under $100. I know it goes before the muffler but does it matter exactly how far apart from the muffler. All these new parts will set me back about $500.
I am avoiding the collector car insurance route as I want it to be my daily driver.
So what do you think? Is a F151 a good thing?
Hopeful in Arizona.

When I took my 73 F100 FE360 down they didn't even pop the hood they just ran it on the machine and I was good to go. I didn't have any of the evap stuff on my truck I did have to put a cat on it so I could get it to pass on the machine with the tired engine but there was no visible inspection done. I would run it through and see what they say. Oh and I went to the title company on the corner of Deer Valley and 7th Ave then to the emissions place just west. The title place is really cool there no extra BS to deal with or wait.
Good luck

Passed with Flying Colors
I took it in on Monday. They put it on the dyno. Had me pop the hood because they could not figure out how to get it open. Two guys inspected the engine and then called over an older gentleman who pointed to the sticker on the valve cover that said non catalytic. Most of the conversation was on what a great truck it was and that they could not believe that it only had 97,000 on it. My number were way below the requirement and I passed.
It does actually say F151 on the vin plate. My new AZ title does not list it as a F151 like OK did.
