I'm not worthy!!! I'll post anyway... I kind of regret not cleaning up my engine compartment more when I was rebuilding the engine. I guess I was just too excited to get the engine back in the truck so I could drive it again. Oh well.

Thanks 77460Ford! Winter has come to us but no snow here in the bay area.

The springs and hinge are powder coated.

Oddfordjunkie.... Believe it or not, those battery covers were actually my idea. I had been debating about what to do with the batteries in Buford, and was having a hard time coming up with an idea I liked for the dual batteries in the truck. I had originally intended to go with those vintage looking batteries with the Optima guts, but I knew that my truck didn't come with batteries that old anyway, so that was out. Because of my plan for the engine compartment, I knew I didn't want any colors other than black, blue, or silver, so I sat thinking about that. I knew I didn't want a red or yellow top optima under the hood as it would screw up the look. So, I placed a call to Optima, and asked what the difference was between the yellow tops and their blue top deep cycle starting batteries. They said that other than an extra set of terminal posts, there was no difference whatsoever, other than color.

That gave me an idea.....I knew that there were various outfits that made trays for Optimas, but I wanted a custom tray made with the Ford script, so that the blue background of the Optima would show through.......thus, providing me with the Blue Ford oval. I called Custom Optima Trays, and asked them if they could do the work, and they had me provide them with some pictures, and said they could do the job. I told them what my idea was with the blue top, and they said "I can't believe nobody has thought of this yet!!!.....we're going to sell a lot of these!". I asked that since it was my idea if I was entitled to any part of that............they laughed.

Anyway, I got the very first pair of these battery trays, which they now sell on their website. I think they go for around $200 per tray, but I could be wrong. So, there you have it.........the back story of the origins of the blue Ford oval optima trays.
