Programmer for f250 6.8 V10

Hi. I'm looking to buy a programmer for my 2000 Ford f250. It has the 6.8 v10 with 195k miles. I want to be able to get the most power out of it and be able to get better fuel milage. I'd appreciate your recommendations and experiences. Thank you

5startuning.com , It will run better, but you wont ever get the 15+ mpg unless you can coast downhill everywhere you go.

Y pipe, tuner and maintenance are the best things to do. As said though mileage, V10 and 8k lbs are fighting against you.

Thanks for your recommendation! Now I've heard of 5 star and heard good things but do you know if they sell programmers? I heard it was just that you took the truck and they tuned it and u just had that one tune?

I'll give you my opinion for what its worth. The 4r100 is dumb. The 2v motors are dumb. There just isn't enough in them thats able to be tweaked to justify the price of a tuner. Your money would be better spent on a SPD Y-pipe and gears. If your truck was newer with the 3v, I would recommend having Mike tune it in a heart beat. But there's not enough of a gain with the 2v/4r100 to justify the money. To get the 25-30hp you need to run the 93 octane tune, which if looking for fuel economy is cost prohibitive. I have a 2v 5.4 and I bought one and it sits on the shelf.

I have Mike's 5Star tuner on my 01 F350 with the V-10. IT works. I tow my 5th wheel and truck and trailer are close to 18,500 lbs. Made a big difference with the tuner then it did before.

None of the mods discussed will do a thing for your fuel economy except perhaps make it worse. You can get a little power with a tuner and some other bits, but not a whole lot.

02tb250 is correct on the tuners not working on the 5.4/4r100 combo, but they do work on the v10/4r100 trucks for some reason. I Have a SCT my five star and mine also sits on a shelf in my garage, best mod I did was gears, spd ypipe and my TransGo shift kit

Thanks for your opinion. I was recently told the same by a friend of mine. He doesn't like the 2v either and says the 4r100 is junk. I personally never had a problem with the tranny but I guess its how you treat it. But thanks again!!

One man's treasure is another man's junk. There are lots of people who have many miles of hard use on their 2v engines and 4R100 transmissions. My 13-year-old Excursion with its 2V heads and 4R100 transmission pulled 6,000 lbs over its rated capacity across the country without a hiccup.

I could agree since I live in Oklahoma and there are farmers that use 2v v10 going 240k + miles. As far as transmission I asked several people about it as well and they said its built really well. My friend is one of the few that say otherwise. I like the tranny and the engine personally but I could use a little more power.

The key to transmission life is maintenance. If you flush the fluid every 30,000 miles and don't let it overheat it should last nearly forever.

So what is your opinion on the 2valve and 5 speed manual transmission, and the 5 star tunes ?
