I was out to see Jason yesterday, and we determined that he had, indeed, a bad coolant temp sensor.
Comparing the sensor's resistance values at ambient, they were off by an order of magnitude.
One read about 1.8K ohms, the new one read 18K ohms.
Using a Zippo on the new sensor, and watching the needle start upward, confirmed that the new one needed to be installed.
He drained the coolant, used a wrench, re-installed the coolant, and WAA-LAA! Good to go!
Sometimes you just get lucky!

It was great to meet you Marv and thanks for the help!! I don't get out that way very often so I haven't gotten to meet many left coasters.
Unfortunately, the new MAP did not solve the original problem. The codes all go away with MAP plugged in, but truck has no power/no boost. Unplugged it runs great, but sets SES and the following codes:
P0237 - Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Low Input
P1247 - Turbo Boost Pressure Low
P1248 - Turbo Boost Pressure Not Detected
And not related? It is hooked up though...
P0541 - Manf Intake Air Heater Circuit Low
Unfortunately, I had to leave and now I'm paying a shop in LA $95/hr to diagnose this. Anything I can give them to help resolve this will help save me $$$...

Well like Tim said check the hose and see if you can blow thru it. Also if you could pin test (ohms) the 3 MAP sensor wires back to the pcm plug you could rule out wiring. If the wires are good I would be looking at trying a different PCM to rule out something wrong with pcm.

Changing out a pcm is alot easier than finding a bad wire. But sorry it is going to cost you a pcm. If it was a bad wire I myself wouldn't even go looking for it and just run a new wire to the pcm.
So are you home or on your way home?

I have a pile of PCM's at the shop, just hoping I have one for that truck... I have another '02 I recently built that I can try the 'new' PCM in - so I can at least try to verify it works before I ship it.

Good idea on the pcm. I don't know about you I always enjoy a nice long road trip but I am always happiest when I get back home to my family and my bed.

It's a VERY-lucky girl getting that truck as her first "car". She'll be able to go anywhere in style and luxury, take a few of her friends with her, and tow a trailer full of their horses as well. Her dad's a VERY-smart guy!
It was great getting to meet you when you were out here, Jason. Let us know when you again get out this way, and we'll get together again!
All the best to you.
