Ruh-Roh; 85 F350 dually w/ T19, user error issue.

Hello all and thank you for being a part of this interface, looks like a great resource.

So, I was changing the fluids in my F350 (just picked it up), I drained the tranny no problem and pulled what I figured was the fill-hole (a T50 headed bolt opposite and above the drain plug). There was resistance at the very end and then it popped out.

After my mistake, I decided to do some research, saw that the truck runs a T19 and they fill from the top (oops).

But, what did I unbolt? From the diagrams I can see, it has something to do with the reverse gear. Do I have to drop the transmission, or is there another way to put this bolt back into place?

ID10T error for sure, probably shouldn't be so **** sure in the future... what's done is done, though.

Thank you in advance for any insight into my bumbled predicament,
Rob

Here's the exploded view from the parts catalog. Can you point out which bolt it is?

On the T-5 that has something to do with reverse. Not sure it's the same though. You may have to take the top off and see.

Thank you for your replies. I'll snap pictures in a bit - it appears to be 7017. What I'm trying to figure out now, is whether I should take it into a shop or if I can fix it fairly easily.

7017 in the above diagram appears to be the input shaft? Usually they are filled from the side. A spot like 353051-s In the diagram above. Yes, it's messy and a pain.

Maybe not 7017 then, definitely on the drivers side opposite and above the drain. Fits a T50 star bit, has what appear to be a couple o-rings on it... here's a pic, can't upload directly and can't find decent image hosts anymore but: https://imageshack.com/i/f0idNeV3j

This picture of a t18(which is supposed to be basically the same tranny) shows that bolt being the reverse shifting arm pivot. Is there a o-ring there like the picture shows? #35 is the fill plug on the side. I don't know who told you to fill it from the top. You can, but you have to take the shifter off. You still need to take the #35 fill plug out to get the right amount of oil in it. When it starts running out of the fill plug, you have enough.

IF you are reallly reallllllly reallllllllllllllly lucky and did not move the shifter since then you MAY be able to get it back in.

If not, you're pulling the topcover.

Sorry man.

Hey all,

Truckasaurus lives. Thanks for all the advice, in the end only had to take the inspection cover off (top and bottom), and reconnect it. Runs a treat, happy holidays!
