New owner of old truck

Recently purchased a 1999 f150 4x4 with lots of miles with 4.2 Engine. It ran rough at first. Check engine light on and erratic idle. Check engine said it was running lean on the left and right banks.
I put a new: PVC, replaced vacuum hoses, spark plugs, plug wires, fuel pump, and had a mechanic check the EGR with a vacuum pump and it works properly. Mechanic also check for more vacuum leaks, no more were found.
It runs and idles great with two exceptions, it hesitates under a load and the check engine light still comes on after 20 miles of operation.
I have been reading some of the posts about others with same or similar problems.
Question: Will the MAF or the DPFE cause the symptoms I have?

Plugging in a code reader would be a good start. Might save a few $$ by telling you what the problem is.

Replacing the O2 sensor(s) might be a good bet. Surprised your mechanic didn't suggest it.
I have found that anytime after 100K-150K miles is a good time to replace the O2 sensor.

Good luck.

Yeah, I saw old truck and thought 50's or 60's. Maybe I'm just getting old. But my Old truck is a 1950 F2, new trucks are a 1985 F150 and don't soot me a 2010 Nissan.
