I see a number of things wrong here. That may be an OEM cap but obvieously the filter was too long.
You have pnut butter for oil or it hasn't been changed in it's life.
The filter stalk is missing the filter bypass valve just the little spring is left in the middle.
You need to do a serieous flush with simple green or dawn and then flush the heck out of it, you can use tap water for this. Be shure your heater valve is open.

Change your water hoses because they will start to deteriate.

Oil looks brown..... Looks like water on the oil.

If the oil filter stand pipe is not melted, that's one positive sign.

Hopefully just blown HGs with no piston or cylinder issues.

Drain oil plug next and report.

While you have the oil filter cap off and the filter out.
Take a pickup magnet and stick it in the finger of a
rubber glove and run it around the bottom of the filter
housing. Post what you come up with. You want nothing
but if you find something stuck to the magnet they more
deeper looking is called for.

I was having some trouble wrapping my head around the spring and valve thing in the standpipe (shown in pic) so did some research. It appears that the oil filter bypass valve has come apart and the plastic clip that holds it together has disappeared. Anyone know what this is called and if I can get one at a parts store like autozone?

Without the bypass assembly installed it will bypass oil
and the engine will get the dirty stuff.

Try these guys they have good prices for Ford parts and
they are a Ford dealer.
AutoNation Ford White Bear Lake | Parts & Accessories

Now I don't know this Ebay person but this may be the part you want.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-0-6-4L-Powerstroke-Diesel-OEM-Genuine-Ford-Oil-Filter-Housing-Tube-F250-F350-/231266216365?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item35d88a69ad&vxp=mtr
Your better off with AutoNation because they can look the part up by VIN.

And you will get the Ford 2 year and with the Ebay guy you get what you get.
That may be a good or bad thing.

6 0 6 4L Powerstroke Diesel Genuine Ford Oil Filter Housing Tube F250 F350 | eBay

I purchased some parts from Jason ^^^^^ several months ago. All his parts come from a local Ford dealer in Tennessee. My experience with Jason was positive, he even allowed me to return some parts I didn't end up using. Just thought I would through that out there.

A Google search of the eBay listing's location brought up "Miracle Ford is a trusted new and used car, truck, and suv dealership in Gallatin,
Tennessee." Cut and paste, got to love it.

Yep that's it. Thanks for posting the dealer. I want to say Jason said he worked for that dealership for several years before stepping out on his own.

Something's fishy here. Jason is an ex employee yet the e-bay posting indicates the dealer is the source?

Sounds like Jason wears a mask.

He can wear a thong and a mask, as long as I get a good deal!

I assume he developed a good relationship with that dealer to aquire parts at a wholesale price, then marks them up a bit to make a living... Just a guess.

Obviously huh? Well it is exactly the same length as the new one I just bought. Yes the oil is dirty, and what is showing in the cap does appear to have some moisture in it. But if you see the oil itself which I guess I will take a picture of, is Black and no does not look like peanut butter. The Bypass is missing a little white plastic retainer that keeps the valve and spring in place. I can't find the retainer, but the rest is there and will function ok. I believe this thing has been sitting for some time with the green antifreeze in it, I'm sure it will survive a little longer. A flush is low down on the priority list.
