transmission question

Ok I know there's a bit of info floating around about this topic but so many say its possible and so many say it isn't.

I have a 93 f250 with a C6; I want the engine for something else so I'm swapping in a 7.3idi I have for the time being and I don't want to spend extra cash on a trans if Its not needed, i need it to be reliable for a year max.
My question is do I need to get another transmission or can I cut the bell housing and drill new mounts? Or build an adapter plate?
I'm hoping to hear from someone who knows the answer for a fact from trying or watching someone try to fit a gas c6 to an idi. Everything I've read is basically hear say and I can't find a clear cut answer.
Thanks in advance for any help

It is a very clear cut and dry answer. But we have to know what engine is currently in your truck....

460 and IDI diesel do not share bellhousing bolt patterns. You will need another transmission.

You also will need a new fuel system and electrical system. Not an easy swap.

Difficult swap for sure, but doable. We'll leave that issue aside for now though.

The 385 C6 won't bolt to the diesel. Even if it did it wouldn't shift right and the torque converter is wrong. Find a diesel C6. Actually, a running parts truck is the way to go imo. Find one that's rusty but complete. I'm not sure about the 92+ stuff, but in the earlier trucks the whole dash wiring is different.

I have everything but the dash and diesel c6. Your post was quite helpful I appreciate that.

Any tips for the dash? Since its short term I was thinking about just getting some cheap aftermarket gauges and not messing with the stock harness. When The cummins is ready I'm replacing the interior completely anyways.

I don't know enough about the swap, just going on what I've heard. I don't really mess with the 92+ stuff, but I know the PSOM controls the speedometer and may or may not work. The tach isn't going to work, not sure about the rest of the stuff. An IDI diesel is full mechanical so that's a plus. You can run a manual GP control, the lift pump is mechanical, the gas tanks should work provided they're clean, but the filler neck will need to change as I'm not sure a diesel nozzle will fit. The fuel pumps will need to be removed and a hose fitted to reach the bottom of the tank. If you're staying with dual tanks a Pollack 6 port valve should take care of switching tanks. You're going c6 to c6 so drivetrain shouldn't change. You'll need dual batteries. That's all that comes to my mind, maybe others can add to that list.
