79 f150

79 f150
I have a 79 f150 that has a swapped out rearend,(housing and all.) due to a broken axle. This replacement rear came out of a 77 f150 2wd. My housing leaks rear end dope at the bearing on the right hand side due to being slightly bent in an accident many years ago. My question is this, "Will this housing accomodate my chunk for my 9" rear and axles?" Inside measurement from backing plate to backing plate is the same. The ratio of the rear out of the 77 is a 308. My original is a 350. I need to get my 350 back in there so I can use my 4wd. I am just wondering, since the overall housing measures the same would the axles and chunk measure the same and swap out with no problem.

The centre section should fit right in. Only other issue I can think of is the axle shaft and side gear spline counts. If they are mismatched, you might buy new or good used shafts and or swap the side gears in the diff carrier. Although I'm sure if it's a traction aiding differential, a side gear swap would not work.
