If it were me....offer the guy 2000 and see if he bites. I don't see many Super cab shortbeds around here so that's kinda cool.
Now for the engine debate, I think the 351M is a decent engine with headers, Edelbrock intake and a 650cfm carb with an RV cam. Ran that combo for almost 10 years then I upgraded to the 400 and liked that too. I really don't think the oil pressure issue is much of an issue. I ran Shell Rotella 15W-40 and the oil pressure was good even after 60,000 miles. Of course, I wasn't doing any quarter mile drags or pulling heavy toy haulers/trailers or boats but it had plenty of giddy up n go and had a few Bowtie boys scratching there heads. Always had people asking me if it was a 390. (Why...yes! Yes it its! haha)
Note too that 351W's are a small block and wont interchange with the 351M-400's. Only difference between 351M and a 400 is the rotating assembly. Externally they look the same. 351M has a 3.50in stroke and the 400 has a 4.00in stroke. Read some threads in the 335 series engine forum and i think that will clear up a few questions. At least I hope it does. Best of luck.

It's 3500 but it's Canadian money... It's metric LOL!

I'd at least check it out for sure. I know how rare they are up here 'cause I've got one that I kinda over-paid for. It was babied though, but had bad/cheap rust repair. If its in decent shape its worth 3k, but being 2wd seems to keep the prices down on these things. If I had the space & money it woulda been in my driveway already lol

For price comparison. I paid $3000 for a 78 f250 custom supercab and $3000 for another 78 F250 XLT Trailer Special supercab. Both were 4x4, the custom had a 460 swapped in. Neither were as clean as that one posted by the OP but around MN everything seems to be the same $2000-$4000 range with rusty floors and cab corners, if you find one with no rust the asking price is usually around $7000 or more.

If it's been sitting around under the shelter for a couple of years it makes me wonder how long it's been for sale and what the original price was. Bondo work on truck boxes shows up real fast and cracks and falls out due to the box/frame flex. Patched up cab corners done wrong leads to badly rusted from the inside out rocker panels, most people don't apply rust converter to the inside of the rockers when they have the chance. Rust converter isn't the best way to stop rust but it does help prolong the problem. at $3500 he's not recouping his cost unless he did a cheap job and bought a rebuilt from someone else. Or it could have been made from left over parts from parted out or rebuilt trucks. Not a good candicate to convert to 4x4 unless you have a complete fram available and even then your dealing with one frame that's 37" wide in the rear and the 4x4 is 34" wide in back.

First off I want to thank you guys so much for all the feedback as I really appreciate it.

I'm going to see the truck tomorrow. He said the breaks were done two years ago, tranny was recently rebuilt with a torque converter. Engine was rebuilt very recently with everything being a stock rebuild except for the rv cam. He's had it for 5 years and only driven it during the summer months to haul a trailer around with his family. He sent me some pictures of the interior and it was really nice. He said the rear wheel wells are rusty but he has replacements if I want. He said the body work and paint was done by the previous owner. I'll let you guys know how it goes tomorrow.

Feel free to add on anything else I should be checking for.

I put the 400 zoom on it and it appears the rust is starting to reappear, lots of overspray under the hood shows a lack of paying attention to your workmanship. I think the body has 2 years left on it and the owner knows it and doesn't really want to rebuild it, although he would like to. Good sign as that usually means he likes the drive train. Make sure he still has the 2 bbl carb on it. It's a 500 cfm carb and can handle the RV cam, no need for a 4 bbl unless you hate money. Your right to start at 2k, if you have to, let him think overnight on 2500. It's xmas, ho ho ho, save some dough.
