Happy trails!! Be safe. I've made that trip, pulling a boat, I'm here to stay. Las Cruces and Ft Stockton were my stops too, but not Gila bend because I started in buckeye. Again, be careful!! That wind from El Paso to fort Stockton can be crazy due to the fact that New Mexico blows so bad!!
I certainly appreciate the thought! I'll get one back in there once I get home and settled. I always stop at truck stops for fuel and eye them when we are getting something to drink. Maybe I'll pick up a little Cobra if I find one I fancy. When do you get back to the states anyway?
Late to the thread....sorry. Not sure how much you know about CBs, but the first lesson I learned was that the radio isn't nearly as important as the antenna. A little CB with a really tuned antenna will do a heck of a lot more than a really tuned CB with a crappy antenna. Just something to remember for when you get one going. Good luck on the trip.
Aye, looking at maybe permanently mounting one. Can't forget the coax though! Easy to make yourself, and you know it was done right. Ebay coax might be cheap, but it's not the best quality. Most of it is just pressed together and crimped, not soldered.
Woke up this morning to F-16s taking off and the smell of desert sage. I LOVE road tripping. I could live in Gila Bend in a heartbeat. It's very quiet and the beauty is unsurpassed...plus my wife and I are kind of aviation geeks, so the AFB close by would be welcome.
Gotta hit the road! I'll respond to everyone tonight! Some photos from this morning...
Wow! What a difference!! And I always liked the smell of sage. My Mom grew some in the garden, and it always smelled good after a light rain. That and fresh herbs are way better than store bought. Hehe, that F16 is quite the noisy one. Had a couple fly over once real low when we were training.
