Is this where I post for 1989 B700

I have the opportunity to work on a 1989 B700 School Bus. I have some questions regarding alternative carburetors for the 428 4 valve but wanted to make sure I'm posting in the correct place first.

Thanks.

Welcome to FTE.

This is the place for that vehicle.

"428 4 valve...". Well, let me make life easier when it comes to parts etc.

There is no such thing as a "428 4 valve..."

Your B700 probably has a "429 4V". The 429 is a different series engine than the 428. The 428 was never offered in any truck. The 429 started out as a car engine and grew into the 460. A heavier duty version of it was created for medium trucks. That's what you probably have.

As for "4V", that stands for "4 venturi" or 4 barrel carburetor. NOT 4 valves.

You can probably bolt on any 4 bbl carb. I would guess you have a square bore carb.

Your carb is probably governed, as well as your ignition. If the ignition is governed, you should be safe from engine overspeed. If not, you must be careful not to over rev that motor.

Anyway, feel free to post here and you may get more responses as well.

Thanks! The 428 was a typo. Don't know what I was thinking on the 4 valves thing. How could a V-8 have few valves than it has cylinders.

When talking about a "4 Valve" engine that means 4 valves per cylinder- 2 intake valves and 2 exhaust valves for a total of 32 valves in the V8 engine. Ford has made "3 Valve" and "4 Valve" engines- but not in the 429 engines.

Ive never heard a 32 valve called a 4 valve. I did assume that ford just did things differently. I grew up in a chevy mopar family and I mostly work on jeeps these days.
