Why Diesel?

I would expect most trucks in that price range either need brakes or will need brakes soon.

I would much rather do that to be honest. I have a really nice set-up on the 5.4 and would rather leave it now that I think about it. I can always do the front first and the rear a few months later if they aren't to bad. No need to plan to much though, still haven't seen it. I have to admit, I'm really excited about it though!

Found this one... 300k miles, and a 7.3 but not much more than the red one and really clean:
2001 FORD EXCURSION LIMITED 8-7.3 L-TD 4X4 DIESEL

It is white... but I am planning on having whatever I buy professionally bed-lined so color doesn't really matter. The main thing is the more the truck cost in the beginning the longer it will be before I can afford to bed-line it

Is that the same reason you created a lowered mini truck? Now look how easy it has been to sell it. Doing things that hurt the true resale value is a bad idea, even if you THINK you will keep it for ever. What happens when you total it? Your insurance company is going to frown upon the coating since it looks like crap to most people.
Not saying it is the "wrong" thing, but not really the best idea on something that actually has monetary value. If it were a piece of crap to begin with, and you want to cover a multitude of paint sins (this is what the insurco will assume I would imagine), who cares. It wasn't worth anything to anyone anyhow.
Just something to think about....

My guess from your other posts, you feel it is a good idea to bed line it because you never plan to sell it... right?

Seriously though, that's an insanely good point... I never thought I would sell the Blazer when I started working on it

This is purely from a woman's perspective and is not an answer your gas or diesel question. I own a V10 Gas; have 5 brothers, 2 ex husbands and 3 grown sons.
Men are much happier when they are driving the vehicle they really want, rather than one the have to drive out of necessity. Many do the latter because that's what they "need to do" but you have to consider all the factors not just the dollars. Nothing worse than a man who settled for something he didn't really want.....they will quietly whine for years and years.
If your family can afford the 6.0 - let him get it - would be my opinion.
