Smile New to me 66 F-100

Just bought a 66 f-100 for $1300. I lost my old account, I had used for the 80's bull nose pick-ups. I'm looking to decode the VIN on the new 66 and check out some questions I've had come up that i haven't been able to answer using the search feature. I'm working on getting used to the forum again and I'll post pictures as soon as I can, for now I have the vin plate typed out.
Warranty number :F10AK890260
WB: 129
Color: J
Model: F100
Body: M81
Trans: F
Axle: 08
Cert HP 129 AT 4000
Do: 424221

Any info is appreciated, looking to play with this truck as a shop rod/ Mid life crisis cruiser.
Thanks, Crook

1st pic is crappy vin plate mistake pic post.
2nd pic is the truck, after my first 2hr drive with one functioning brake in fresh snow.
3rd pic is this a stockish rear end. I know its a nine, but by the hangers it looks swapped.
4th pic the brake pedal is obnoxiously high. Its has a booster and a proportioning valve installed. Brakes are very touchy, but go to manual after sitting at a light. Looking to swap to front disks and have manual brakes, when i do king pins, as passenger side camber looks like i cut 4 coils out.

jcrook85 Welcome back to and the Slick Forum

Looks like you have a 66 F100 built in Kansas with a 240 CID engine

I believe you have described some brake parts not factory installed on your truck. So further without digging is pure speculation, but it sounds like a half azz brake build.

Start working on a plan of what running gear you want your truck to run with. 6-8 straight-auto then start looking for a donor 73-79 with the drive train that you decide on. I wanted to stay with the V8 FE in my truck but wanted auto, I found a 76 360-C6, swapped the I-beams, and steering while having the engine and tranny rebuilt.

I started my 66 project with a fresh engine, tranny, power disc brakes, power steering, rolled the odometer up to the next 100,001 for a fresh start.

Enjoy your new project

John

I'd like to run the early t18 that's in there and a 351 Cleveland. The engine was swapped to a 300 and I'm looking to go back to manual brakes and keep the manual steering.

Looks like a really solid truck as far as the body goes. Where did you find it?

Here's a warranty plate decode based on the info you provided in your first post. I'm sorry I couldn't read the plate as it appeared in your picture. Interestingly, though your truck decodes as a '66, it is wearing a '65 grille. F10 = F100 2 wheel drive truck. A = 240 cubic inch 1 bbl I-6 engine. K = Kansas City assembly plant. 890260 = assembled in July, 1966. 129 = wheelbase in inches. J = Rangoon Red exterior color. F100 = 5000 pound Gross Vehicle Weight rated half ton truck. M81 = beige colored upholstery in a Standard Cab. F = Warner 4 speed manual transmission. 08 = Ford 9 inch non-limited slip axle with 3.50 gears. 5000 = your GVW rating (you left that out). 129@4000 rpms = NET horsepower and rpms where achieved. 424221 = Domestic Special Order from the Fargo sales office. Unfortunately, all records having to do with what your special order specifications might be are long gone. Frequently they have to do with paint, but usually in those cases the exterior paint code is left blank and yours is not. So your guess is as good as anyone's. Good luck!

Thanks for the replys guys. I bought it off a guy who posted it on craigslist. And it was in perham mn but he said his buddy got him a line on it for a good deal so who knows before that. It is really clean except cab floors and front cab mounts. It would be a good candidate for a nice original resto but it's gonna be my hot rod.
