Stop, turn, and tail light bar

I just received an led light bar that goes under the tail gate for my birthday. Has stop, turn, tail, and reverse light functions. It comes with the flat 4 plug to connect to the stock trailer light harness. Only problem is that if you want to use you either have to leave it plugged into the weather protected flat 4 plug on the truck and unplug for trailer lights or hardwire it to the factory harness. Both of the options won't work for me. I was thinking of purchasing the T-connector to plug inline with the factory harness. Two problems solved, no cutting factory wires and no leaving the plug cover open to the elements. My question is does the F-150 with the factory tow pkg have the same harness as the one without? I guess I could buy the harness at the LPS and return it if it wont work.

The factory tow package has 2 additional wires, one for brakes and one for 12V constant power. I don't know if that matters for the T-connector and it shouldn't matter for the 4 flat plug.

I have a trailer hitch brake lamp which I leave plugged into the 4-pin connector all the time. Its fairly weather tight plus I put some silicone dielectric grease on the connection. All in all I'd say its more effective than the little black plug cover!

from watching an install video of a 7 pin connector on a non tow package equipped truck the wires coming from the engine bay to the rear of the truck have all of the wires for the tow package. There is a junction at the rear of the truck. the side coming from the engine compartment has all wires for the tow package(7 pin connector), but the other side that goes to the 4 pin connector has only the wires for the 4 pin. with that said, you should be able to use the t-connector at that splice and be fine, as it would be fed from the engine comp. side with all of the required wires!

That sounds correct to me. Make sure you get a good seal on the T connectors.

Stopping by the LPS tomorrow to get that t connector. $22 at NAPA. Well see, really knowledgeable parts guy there said the harness on the tow equipped and non-tow equipped vehicles should be the same as far as the t connector is concerned. Ford just adds additional wires for the factory trailer controls (brakes, 12v source, ho tail lights). The t connector simply goes inline with the vehicle's tail lights. Sounds good to me, I will check out the situation this weekend and report back.
