Tall Ford Racing Valve cover clearance issue's

Hey guys, I have installed the tall ford racing valve covers on my 79 F350 4x4 SC 400 motor and they are hitting the brake booster. I have shimmed the booster some but I'm not happy with the appearance. It sits at a slight angle now to clear. I think I could use the smaller booster (9 1/4") to achieve clearance but has anyone used the smaller booster? Other options, other than a body lift or hydro boost?

I've used both 7 and 8 inch boosters and they work fine.
Using an 8 inch on my '61 Y block right now.

Those look just like mine 4 1/2" tall but mine hit, need about 1/4" more clearance!! Where did you buy your booster and MC from?

Nice looking engine bay!!

If it fit on one rig and not another and all else is equal, check to see if the engine is level side to side.., the perches are somewhat slotted so the engine may be slightly canted over to the passenger side thus resulting in the inadequate clearance.

I checked that already and it is level. I have read on here about others having the same problem. Trying to decide which way to go from here???

What, the valve cover? If I were to notch it, it's back far enough that it wouldn't get noticed but not sure I wanna go that route just yet!!

Replace the cab bushings if they are crushed. Go with black poly.

how about 1/4" thick washers the same foot print as the cab mount bushings?
call it a 1/4" body lift.

I would just swap out the booster for the 9" one. I have the same truck as you do and already have the smaller booster to swap in for valve cover clearance. Haven't actually done the swap yet though. There are LOTS of options for the booster so getting the one that has the right rod to the pedal is kinda a pain. I just went to the JY and started pulling ones till I found one that had the same measurements as my large booster and then took those numbers to the parts store and bought one. If you want the OEM numbers from the 9" booster that fits my 79 f350 SC 4x4 auto 400 let me know, I have them somewhere.

The 9" booster is a double diaphragm and should be an upgrade from the larger single diaphragm booster. So clearing the valve covers would be a nice side effect of upgrading your brake system!

This is probably the option I will go with. I haven't had the time to review but from everything that I've read, seems like the way to go!

If it's not to much trouble, please send me the part number for the 9" OEM booster. Thanks!!

So I've been looking for a part number stamped into this thing and can't find one.

Anyone know where it's stamped?
