what automatic transmissions will work on my 87 f250 with the 460 v8 (7.5 liter)?

I have an 87 f250 with a 460 in it and a 4 speed manual right now everything works fine. Here lately I've been thinking about turning it into a toy instead of my work truck. I would like to install an automatic trans but don't know what truly fits me truck. I would like an idea before I go spending money on things that won't work. Thanks

You need a C6 from another 460 truck.
The bell housing is not removable.

You also need the starter, transmission cooler lines, radiator, vacuum modulator hose, kickdown rod from the carb and a steering column from an automatic truck of the same vintage as yours.

No, not with a bell pattern that fits that block.
There is the later E4OD, but it won't work without a computer.
A standalone controller with TPS etc, is about $750.

Alright and my transfer case should fit up to it right? And can a 2 wheel drive c6 be rebuilt for a 4x4?

Just get a 4x4 C6 with the right pattern.
They are everywhere.

All Fords use the same transfer case adapter.

You open it up to replace the output shaft and tailshaft housing, you might as well spend the $ on a rebuilt unit that is right to begin with.

Parts alone are going to be more than you want to think about.
