You probably want to make sure the glow plug relay and glow plugs are all in good working order along with the block heater if you plug it in a few hours before you start the truck it will help cold starts and you will have heat a lot sooner. Rotella t-6 5w40 synthetic oil will also help smooth out the cold starts. What kind of cold weather are you going to be experienceing ifyou talking extreme cold there are battery oil and trans pan and fuel tank heaters that plug in like the block heater does

Small world that's where I live also as long as the glow plug system and block heater is working properly especially with the synthetic oil you will be fine you may also just want to have a fuel additive with anti gel just to be safe we did have a couple days last winter that hit single digits though and there was about a foot of snow on the ground but it wouldn't matter if your truck would start anyway everything form the military bases to the malls were closed.

Sorry it has taken so long to get back. That sounds like good advice . Do you plug your truck in at night ?

At your present location I wouldn't even worry about using 15w40 or even plugging it in.
