AutoEnginuity versus AeroForce Interceptor functions?

If you plan on getting both eventually, and you do not have an issue you need to diagnose, with the AI you can install it day one and use every day from then on.
If you do have any issue to diagnose, than maybe the AE is the better first step.
Which brings me back to full circle on my question. I agree the AE is much better at watching many parameters at once. And for someone that is wrenching his truck, or a number of vehicles, then it makes sense. With the handicap of the gauge not being fully "on" due to the way the ignition switch works (a relatively easy fix), what doesn't the AI do that I would need the AE for? Given that this is the only vehicle I use it on.
(This thread got a lot more responses than I was expecting. Great info!)

There is a Record and Playback function. It captures about 60 seconds of data, then on playback you bump the reading forward by one capture. Or hold the button and it will bump through each data capture sequentially.
I do not know if this captures all of the selected perimeters, just one or something in-between.
There is no export function. And the last Record session overwrites the previous one.
I'll play with this a little and report back. Good question!

Yeah Leo, I just got out my manuel for the AI and read that it can't be exported, bummer. I think it will do more then one perimeter, it said a cycle scan would be recorded. This is a reason I thinking about the AE because my tuner wants data or they just have to guess at what changes to make to my tune. I don't want guesses, what I really want is live tuning but it looks like that's not going to happen.

Oohh, so you had to run one of those signal amplifiers?
[QUOTE]Don't have one, but I think the AI website users forum might be a good place to search or ask.

Thanks Bob, unfortunatly I've gone that route twice now; like people have mentioned AI's customer support is total BS... Ive registered twice, no comfirmation email has gone to neither my inbox or junk mail.. No phone number there.. I know their a good unit but how can someone do buisness like that.. I guess ill call RiffRaff and ask them about what i need...

Leo, this is all very useful information. Thanks for taking the time to explain it.
Bob, the AI has two wires for an analog input. I don't think adding anything to the OBD port will do anything. These are 0-5 volt inputs so in addition to the sensor you have to use a 5v power supply. These are available from Aeroforce.
You can monitor more than one sensor on each input with a switch between the different sensors. So you aren't necessarily limited to two sensors, it just gets a little more complicated. I've read where some people do this on regular gauges too, switching between oil and water temps for example.
The gauge end of the wires that connect to the OBD port plug into the gauge via a connector.
Each gauge also come with a 3 wire pigtail that also plugs into the gauge.
Two of the wires are for the analog inputs. The third is to be connected to a switched power source if needed. The power wire to the OBD port on some PSDs area always hot, so the gauge doesn't turn off. My '96 didn't power off.
There is a jumper on the back of the gauge you remove. This tells the gauge to look for power on the third wire. I forgot the name, but it is a double fuse that replaces an existing fuse and gives you an additional fused wire for an accessory. 2amp was the smallest fuse I could find. The gauges uses like .5 amps. I picked a switched circuit, the wipers I think.
This three wire pigtail was rather short, about 12" I think. I soldered wire extensions to all three as I didn't want to have to pull this out to add additional length later if/when I wanted to use the two analog inputs. The one for power I made sure was long enough to route to the fuse box. The other two I left long. In fact, I had bought two small rolls (like 25' In think?) of wire and I made the connection and left the remaining wire still on the rolls, and tie wrapped them under the dash.

No, on mine I had to tie into a 5v VREF wire which I found on the TPS.
Strange. Have you tried just emailing them directly? I've emailed them and asked several different questions over the years and have always gotten a reply back with direct answers to my questions.

Like F360-6 said, they both can do the buzz test. The cylinder contribution test, read and clear codes.
If you plan on getting both eventually, and you do not have an issue you need to diagnose, with the AI you can install it day one and use every day from then on.

I am in Plano until Jan 10th. I need to buzz up that way and grab a beer with you!
