early 97 F250 turn signal, cruise, cab light issue

Hey guys, i just registered today. Obviously from my post count this is my first thread.

A little history about my truck: My pops bought this truck new in 97, when i got out of the military, i was going through a divorce, and had to sell all my vehicles to make ends meet, and my pops gave me the truck a few years back. the truck has about 351,000 miles and runs like a champ. only mechanical issue as far as i know is a leak out of the rear main from what i can tell.

Anyways, I'm sure you guys get asked this question on a daily basis, and it's probably one of the most annoying problems with this series truck. But i have a (early/old body style) 97 F-250 Powerstroke and i drivers side turn signal/brake light doesn't work. I changed the bulb in the socket, but it didn't work. I did do a lot of reading on the issue and the consensus appears to be that the 3 way switch on the column is the issue. I purchased one off ebay but still need to put it in. i also noticed that the cab brake light didn't work so i opened it up and noticed the socket was melted (this was about a year ago). Finding a new pigtail socket for this truck is probably one of the hardest parts to find, so the other day i went to orielly's and just bought a pigtail socket for a license plate light to use. figured i could modify the socket to work. so we'll see how that goes. but today when i went outside to get everything situated, i pulled the cab light housing off and now i can't find the old socket. and I'm not quite sure how this new socket should wire up. there are 2 wires coming from the harness that have electrical tape over them. one wire is red with green stripe and the other is black. I'm assuming the black is ground, and the red/green wire is power, but i just want to verify. can anyone verify this for me? that those 2 wires are in fact the wires i need to wire up the new socket for the cab brake light?

if you need a picture i can upload one. i'll just have to do it from my cell phone.

Thanks guys
Justin

You are correct, the ground wire is Black. My manual shows the high mount brake light is fed power by a Dark Green wire.

Ok. what year is your truck? mine is a early 97. would it still be the same wiring? or would it fall under the newer 97+ wiring? or is it all the same? also, in your manual does it show a harness running into a connector, and then a daisy chain of pigtails for the two white bed lights and the brake light from the connector going into the housing? i'll upload a picture of the setup and maybe it will help.

Here's a picture of the wiring. you can see to the right of the housing the black and red/green wire coming out from the connector. but those two wires aren't connected to anything. they are just wrapped up using electrical tape.

My manual covers 1992 through 1997 model year trucks. I referenced the diagram for a 1997 F3250/350 series truck.

The wire colors in the diagram above are for C910 which is the one with the Black, Dark Green and Black w/Light Blue stripe which is visible in the photo you attached. I have no reference of what the wire colors are once it gets onto the assembly. Get a meter to see if the Red and Black wires are the same as the Black and Dark Green in connector C910. I suspect they are.
