Oil drain plug gasket/washer?

Hey all, I recently changed the oil in my new to me 07 5.4 and noticed even though the drain plug seemed tight it still seemed to seep oil. it didn't have any kind of gasket/washer on the plug and I am wondering if these engines normally come with one or if I have something else going on? Thanks for any help.

Take the drain plug to your local auto parts store. A knowledgeable person there should be able to tell you what you need and sell you one.

Thanks, However my nearest 'local' automotive store of any kind is 40 miles away, lol I was hoping to find out one way or the other without making that trip, but again, I appreciate you reply. If push comes to shove I will take that approach.

It probably needs a washer on the plug to seal tight. Even though I don't have that engine, every one I've seen uses a washer to make a good seal. Hardware stores may also have what is needed. Most of the ones I've seen are either copper or nylon. You can also get one via mail order using your computer or telephone. Just measure the drain plug. If you know the thread diameter you'll be able to order one specifying the inside and outside diameters. Then the merchant will send it to you, saving the long drive.

You done well, I checked and the cheapest I found them was $8.39 plus $4.99 S&H for a 25 pack. Are these washers something that needs to be replaced often or rarely? if rarely that's a lot of money to have sitting around on a shelf, lol.

I don't think there is supposed to be a washer. My 02 5.4 F250 never had one! The plug has a rubber O ring which I suspect is for sealing purposes and it probably will wear out over time of course. I have always been under the impression that putting a washer on a plug or? that didn't originally have one is not a good idea. Could cause it to loosen up.

i have a 07 f150 with 5.4. Just the plug no washer on mine and the plug has rubber built into the end of the bolt. Got mine about a year and a half old never changed plugs. No leaks.
