no start when hot

I hate to ad another thread about this but after reading most of the other posts with same problems, they never seem to post the final answer to the problem.

I have an early 04 with sct set for street . Replaced Hpop last year and ICP with pig tail. Today truck fires right up with no problems ficm @48 ,14.7 ipr, 11 volts ficm logic power, 5 vref, has ficm sync with koeo. At idle 48 @ficm ,857 icp, ipr 28. for some reason EBP didnt register. IPR may be original. Truck has 197,000 on the clock. When truck is hot wont restart. When cranking ipr shoots up to 70's , ipr hovers around 370. everything else the same. BTW short oil filter cap.

Now after reading some of the other posts, Im thinking maybe bad ipr? Hopefully not hpop new one has less then 20,000 on it. Havent done the air test yet, with icp in back of motor.

I'd say you're on the right track.

Pull the ipr, remove the screen even if it is intact. Then take a small punch or screwdriver and press in on the plunger under the screen and blow out with compressed air. I have had intact screens before with crap hanging open the ipr. Now pressurize the ipr under the screen and you should hear just a little air leak. Reinstall and see what you have. If it is an early 04 with the icp under the turbo I would air test, either nipple cups/top injector seals or a branch tube problem coming right out of the hpop.

I have time to work on truck and before I start tearing into the motor I have couple questions.
1) Best way to air test on early 04 (icp under turbo)
2) From reading other readers problems on this forum and tech page. I have to do air test with motor hot which brings me back to first question.

There is a small plug in the log rail you can air test there, just need to find a fitting. You still need to 12v the ipr.
You can also isolate each bank and try to start it on 4 cyclinders and check ipr, it maybe higher on one side then the other.
