Brake change tools
#17
Well half the job is done. Got the pads on both sides. The driver side disc had SO much corrosion from the wheel even a chisel wouldn't break it loose. The passenger side didn't have the corrosion on the disc but was locked solid. Now for the good part disc are good and pads were all I needed. The amazing part is I've got 146+k on the truck and this appears to be the first time the brakes have been done--simply amazing. I did find that both axle seals are popped out??? Never seen that happen before. I'll have to take it somewhere to break the disc loose at some point but for now I'll say the job is done. Oh once I figured out the disc weren't being changed it took about 10 minutes per side. I'll b post some pics when I get to the house.

Was too po'd and didn't get a pic of the corrosion on the driver side disc/hub but this was the wheel studs
This is what I had to used to break the lugs and the caliper carrier bolts
Passenger side--no corrosion
The corrosion on the driver side was ALL from the aluminum wheel against the steel of the hub and disc.

Ball joints are on my to-do list. But not to the NOW list. The driver
side pad is no the NOW list in the next few weeks. I just hope I don't
have to add a set of rotors to that list. I know that they have been
once already and hope that there is enough meat left for at least one
more trip to the machine shop to true them up. Don't have any warpage
that I can feel but you never know and it all depends on how aggressive
the last turning was. So I'll just budget in 2 rotors and 2 calipers long
with pads and hardware. Oh yes and the credit card for all the parts.

You need to invest in an impact gun lol
The ball joints on mine was a **** I had to use all kinds of pullers and crap everything was rusted and seized together pia would have been easy
I smeared a couple tubes anti seize on it going back together. Should be easier next time
