Ok this is what I have so fare
so my 351/m engine is shot running on only 4 cylinders i think the valves are burned out i don't want to put money in a modified but I think I want to put a 460 in it but I don't know if it will all work. my 77 is 2 wheel drive with the factory 4 speed granny and a dana 70 rear end iv been told any 70s 460 will mount right in with everything but ill have to get the 460 mounts and find a 390 flywheel couse its so hard to find a factory 460 with a 4speed 2 wheel drive I know where a 1973 460 is that came out of a thunderbird but I'm no pro...this is my first truck..or car. So if any of you could help that would be grate

Your in luck....the 351M/400 has the same bolt pattern on the bellhousing as the 460. You will need to change the engine perches though. There are a few places (L&L for one) that sell ready made parts that just bolt in. Do some searching on these forums as many a 351M has been swapped out for a 460. A 460 flywheel would probably work better.

Yes, where you have all the parts with the other vehicle it should be fine. I did a swap from a 460 auto to a 390 4 spd and everything bolted right on. Had to change the bracket under the dash that holds the pedals also so don't get rid of the donor until you are all done with it. Spare parts are a good thing if you can keep it.. I was told that sometimes there is a discrepancy with the brake booster setup or something but mine went together with no problems. There was even nuts welded inside the frame already for the clutch linkage pivot..

I know this is an old thread, but I have a question. I might be buying a 1977 F350 Camper Special 2wd with 460/c6. It is my "holy grail" truck, except I want to put a 4-speed manual in it. I'm not interested in fabbing in newer Zf5's and building custom cross members and etc, I just want to bolt in factory Ford parts if possible. Can I buy a complete 1977 2wd 400 4-speed truck and just swap trannys and everything else needed for the swap??? I know there would be custom driveshaft work, that's ok. Thanks for any input.
