1968 f100 240?

I own a 1968 f100 and I am just looking for input/ideas about what I could do to build up the 240 six cylinder more to make it faster. Ideas?

Put in a V8?

If you want to keep the six there is a build on powernation.tv's website where they build a 300 i6 to make 200 hp and 300 ft-lbs pretty easily.

Stroke it to 300 And add some go fast parts. Intake/exhaust/cam. Other than that, swap in a small-block.

Keep your rig on the road and build a sweet 300 on the side.

2x with the gents' recommendations above on the six bangers.

Are you wanting tire-burning, racing performance or just better acceleration for highway, around-town use?
Not that I can help you get to either target, just being nosey.

Welcome to FTE newbie!
Please explain your wants and expectations a tad better. FordSix and Trozei are two of the I6 gurus on this forum. They prolly will chime in soon. I believe there is also a forum here specific to the I6's. Look on our home page and check it out there also.

I'm looking more to just make it faster than it is now. Until I can afford a 4bt or something like that. Unless It grows on me haha

I guess one question is how well does your 240 run now? Does your 240 have issues now? The difference between a good running 240 and a bad running 240 is night and day. I know. I have both.

It actually runs quite well. The previous owner did uh. Well not much maintenance. Other than that the body is rusted pretty bad but the engine runs great.

Just for shots and laughs, advance your timing to like 12-14*. That wakes up any motor.

I can't just blindly suggest things for you to do to your engine without knowing how far you want to take it.

When my spark advance and retard diaphragms went, I had mine set to like 20 or something LOL.

Cheap tricks, efi dual exhaust manifolds, chevy six rockers, high energy ignition.
Do the ignition with a DurasparkII dist., a coil from an efi and a GM module. Easy to wire up and works great (also cheap) If you shop around a little, you could do all that for $200-$300 and have noticeably more seat of the pants feel.
I've juiced up a few 300s and owned a couple decent running stock 240s. But nowdays, I probably wouldn't dump money into another one when I can get a lot more bang for the buck with a V8. The one single thing (IMHO) that I ever did for the most gain was a good clean up porting job.
So the best advice I'd give, if the basic engine is sound; Get another 240 head and port it good, get the newer style 300 stock intake so you can run the bigger YF single carb, and do the other above mentioned mods. You would have an engine that runs good and probably gets better mileage. Also maybe shave the head a little.

So besides the engine. What about other parts like doors fenders things like that. Parts sites or things like that you recommend?
