Fuel tank problem

Fuel tank problem
My buddy recently bought 96 F150 XL 4.9 6cyl. Lately it will run good on one tank for a while, then start running rough till it dies, He'll switch tanks, refire it & it'll run good on that one for a while, then run rough and die, and do it all over again.
Any info y'all got that I can pass along would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks
