headliner replacement

I recently mentioned where I bought my headliner and got the name of the company wrong. It's stockinteriors.com. The unit is cut the same as the original but made of ABS sheet goods. They will sell it bare or covered with material. It's slightly oversize and very stiff so a helping hand is useful.
It's currently out of my truck now because I'm refurbishing the cab. After owning "Old Rusty" for 6 years it's about time

Make sure you insulate the roof well, some have had trouble with the vinyl unglueing from the abs.

I have the same head liner myself and went with both a foil backed rubber insulation and a layer of fiberglass batting.

I did insulate with 1/2" foam rubber and it did start to come loose. It's not even hot here! Next is that sound deadening self stick mat and then foam insulation.
Having used contact cement over the years as a carpenter I know the limits of contact cement. I think the problem was not allowing enough time for the cement to outgas the volatiles in it and the ABS and vinyl wouldn't allow it. It could be that fabric would be a better choice that vinyl. I picked vinyl because I use it like it was intended.

Rusty, There is an spray adhesive made for headliner. It is designed for the heat that the roof takes. I found it in of all places - Joanne Fabric near the headliner material. the 3M brand I had bought - I called the # on the back and they recommended not using it. I'm in Florida

Hope this helps
Scott

Thanks Scott, I'll check it out. Do you remember the Brand? I bought vinyl from Joann Fabric to recover the headliner. My truck roof was insulated and where I live 80 degrees is a scorcher so I'm inclined to believe the problem was not allowing enough time for the volatiles to escape ot not enough adhesive on the backing of the viynl

I had a spray in bed liner shot into my 66; and had the roof of the cab shot at the same time. Works great as a sound deadner and insulation. I also live in Oregon, so heat is not a big problem!!
