It isn't as quiet as the Ford AIS, that is for sure. But it does flow better. And yes, you will hear a sucking sound.....more so if you have some turbo upgrades.
I used to run the 6637 which was much louder than the S&B. The noise you're hearing is common. From what others on here have said, the AIS is the most quiet along with the stock air box. The AIS just flows air much better than the stock, without the threat of possible leaks.
Does anyone else hear this thing sucking in air under the hood clearly from the cab with the windows rolled up, the blower fan on high and the radio up?
I hear it when the transmission downshifts (change in RPMs, so change in volume of air required). If I step on the pedal to get up a big hill and let off suddenly, I hear it hissing. It's not subtle or quiet by any means. Maybe it's time for a video...
I got the new style with the dry filter.
What year truck do you have? I ask because I had a similar sound when letting off and it was not related to the S&B....the S&B made things a bit quieter so that I could then hear things that I had not heard before.

It's a 2000 Excursion.
Can you attach a audio or video?
Yes I can. I'll have to take it for a ride tonight.
I do notice that I can hear it sucking air as well...the first intake modification on his truck. But, as with past experience on my motor cycles, every time I open it up to get more air flow, I also got more sound of air being sucked in... so far for me, the trade off was worth it!
Here's the video. That noise at the end is what I hear whenever there is a rapid change in intake air flow. It's quite a bit more noticeable in the truck than it is in the video.
