Stranger looks good Aaron. It's much better than driving your nice OBS for a DD. My ranger's a 5 spd too. I like the 5 spd in the 4cyl ranger for decent mileage. Mine makes 20 mixed driving with ethanol, and has made 30 on the highway with good gas.

You sure can't complaign about that. This one has the dependable yet gutless 3 liter. If I were picking that would be my choice anyway I think.
This weekend I'm going to explore the running issue. I hope it is minor though I won't be surprised if the dist is bad.

Well, I prob derailed another thread unintentionally so I will move back over here where it belongs anyway. I pulled the box this last weekend to a st. Park a little over an hr away. I'm having a very nice idle cold and mid warmup then when it gets HOT it gets pretty yacky if that makes any sence. Coolant temp is just under the middle of the gauge,is good and green and not low.It runs fine off idle and tows in my tow tune like no other. I am extremely happy about everything as egt are in the 1050-1100 range unless I bog it like a dodo.
I haVe spoken with Andrew about it and we agree I need to get info on oil temp where it starts and how hot the oil is getting. I'm not ruling out an inefficient oil cooler at 338000 mi. Also I have always wanted to try this mythological schaeffers oil Glenn and Andrew speak so highly of. Maybe the conventional 15w40 valvoline is breaking down prematurely or under the heat? Oil change is no more than 1000miles old so I wouldn't think but I'm not ruling that out.
I need to also get ipr/icp values cold and hot ,maybe there is something there.
My torque dongle isn't working so hopefully I can figure that out tonight and start collecting some data.

Still lovin the big red dog, just getting all the quirks figured out lol

I'm hoping I just have a blown aldl fuse. We will see soon.
I really want to do schaeffers honestly. I'm real worried my oil is too hot. If it's cold outside it never gets hot enough to do it real bad. 80* or up and towing it sounds like h**l from the tailpipe.

Thanks nick, it's deff temp related.

Schaeffer 15-40 is what I've been running for a long time. Reports always come back great. It dose run cooler and will with stand higher operating temps in the spec's. It dose stay looking cleaner then the Rotella I use to use. But it is pricey. Not sure if I'd put it in if you have other problems, mitt be wasting your money.

My big worry is oil temp. Until I have that info to see if the oil cooler is functioning correctly no I will not. If temp is good and other data is good then oil change..at the same time I will be getting data to Andrew to see if a tuning change will help.
Does that sound reasonable?

Yes. I think I'd just put the oil cooler anyway and have a look. But yes tuning is a big part of engine heat. Really noticed while towing.
