fomoco grey goop

Kay fellas. The gasket on my manual trans for the inspection plate on the side is leaking. I pulled the cover off and it has a slight bow to the one corner. Will the fomoco goop be okay to use with the atf or should I get the proper seal and straighten or replace the cover.

The PTO cover? I would flatten the cover and get a replacement gasket. A LOT less messy than anything in a tube if/when you ever have to remove it again.

When my father in law rebuilt mine, we used the ford goop on a couple of the mateing surfaces.

Hmmm. The goop is easy now. But I know what you mean by later. I'll see if I can get one tomorrow. If not I'll goop it

The "goop" is actually this -

http://www.reynoldsam.com/product/metalset-a4/

I've patched bullet holes in Pavehawk helicopters with this stuff. It's good.

Yeah I know it's good. But if ever I need to go back into the trans ie rebuild, that crap is a ******* to get off. I'll call when the parts store opens. If the can't get it by the end of the day I'll goop it

^^^^^^ +1. Bullet hole repair should be permanent. Seal for a removable part should not. Those PTO covers are a somewhat generic configuration, not just found on the ZF. Might be worth tracing the outside of the cover and the spacing of the bolts, as a way of matching one up.

Just make a gasket with the cover, gasket material and a small ball peen hammer. DONE!

And you will be able to get it off when needed withOUT destroying it
