OKAY!
I take a break from the forum for a few days until I have SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE and some of you folks feel compelled to twist off. It was NOT my intention to kickoff some flame war...
ANYHOO, my tranny guy just did a full scan and the ONLY thing which indicated a problem was 'output speed sensor' which we were able to trace back to most likely being caused by a completely hosed driveshaft (I've noticed a driveline vibration). We're going to install a new driveshaft, replace the output speed sensor(s), check for any frayed/chaffed wiring going to the output speed sensor(s) and then see where that leads us (he said something about some computer module in the dash which he's had to replace on several Sooper Dooties).
I'm grateful that I have an honest tranny guy.
I hope some of y'all are able to find this helpful.

Rebuilt driveshaft in place (replaced u-joints and male spline end of driveshaft w/ Spicer part, female spline end ok, had 'em tap the female spline yoke for a grease fitting and they put an new rubber boot on the slip joint, then they balanced the assembly), so far so good. Haven't replaced any sensors yet, going to clear the codes and see what happens next. Hopefully nothing.
Have mixed feelings about all these electronic complications. On the one hand the codes can tell you exactly where to look, on the other hand I wouldn't have had the weird shifts out of the tranny if not for the output speed sensor throwing the code over the vibrating driveshaft - I already knew I had a driveline vibration.

Everything is now working like it should with respect to the drivetrain without any hiccups, only repaired/rebuilt the driveshaft (it got a new Spicer male spline and new u-joints then balanced), nothing else was replaced or tinkered with.
