Plugging in the block heater for around 4 hours will get everything as warm as it's going to possibly get from the block heater alone, anything more than that just shortens the block heaters life span and raises your power bill

I stayed home today due to 5-6 inches of snow and a few accidents on the route I take to work. The kids shoveled the car and truck out and reported that the truck was nice and warm at 106 F. The timer was on from 3:30 AM to 9 AM. I was told the temp at 11:15 am.

This thread wasn't to start a debate on to use a timer or not! It was to let folks know that I found a relatively inexpensive timer that states it works with an engine block heater!

If you do not want to use a timer fine!
Just the nature of this place sometimes Wildman. LOL
One of my favorites was an augment about what to lube an o-ring with! Some of us will split hairs. Thanks for the heads up on the timer.

I held that timer in my hand yesterday. Then I set it down. I really should use a timer my timer right now is my wife but when said timer forgets to flip the switch I get less than an hour of heater time. The truck always starts no matter what(knock on wood) its just easier on everything when its had some heater action.

I hate letting the truck idle longer then 10 minutes. So I figure it will warm up faster with it plugged in and of course it is easier on things!

Restless Wildman,
Thanks for the info. I picked it up yesterday at the Orange box store and will use it all winter. Thanks again, you solved my problem and saved me some money!

Saving 50 cents a night, this one will pay back in 25 days. I bought it before last winter.

And it is not rated for outdoor use!

The one I found is rated for outside/wet use/

Good point. I plug it in my garage, though, and run the cord outside. Or plug in the truck in the garage... I spoil myself sometimes.
