FIPK Alternative??

I have a 1995 E350 with a 460/7.5 and a speed density config. If I were to remove the EFI factory box and place K&N filters on each of the (2) 3 1/8" hoses that parallel back to the throttle body wouldn't I have a setup that would would generate more air than the K&N FIPK kit? I think the suggested kit replaces both factory hoses with a single 3" hose and 7" long cone filter. My idea is to use a pair of one of these three filter setups:
1)K&N Univ.round straight,#RU1785, 3.5" mount,5"dia.,8.5"long,$45.51;
2)K&N Univ.round straight,#RD1460, 4" mount, 7"dia.,9"long, $55.29;
3)K&N Univ.round straight,#41-1400,4" mount, 7"dia,18"long, $145.00.
The first two would be cheaper than the kit which I think is about $200. The third choice would be a little more. Would there be any benefit to going with the 18 inch monstas??? This isn't a street racer. My other mods so far are: JBA headers, (stock exhaust from collectors back), 9mm JBA power cable wires, side gapped Motorcraft plugs. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Fly.

FIPK Alternative??

I fabbed up a pair of aluminum tubes that stick out of each intake tube over by the air box. Those to tubes go into a 6" round plate. Then I picked up a 8x12 cylindrical K&N with a 6" mount and hose clamped it to my plate. I got the aluminum free and the filter was just over 50 bucks. MAJOR difference in throttle response. Much more snap to the pedal. Dunno about HP gains, but the throttle response alone was worth it. I wanna do a ram air setup or something though, cuz once the engine (with headers) warms up the hot air getting drawn into the inatke is making a noticable difference than when cold.

Thanks Ranger, I like your 6" plate idea. I will check it out. By the way, did you get more or less performance from your rigged up Ranger system compared with the stock K&N FIPK kit that you put on your F250?? If there is no noticable performance difference... there is definitely a huge price difference!! Thanks, Fly.

FIPK Alternative??

Would the wye from a later engine that has the MAS inserted in to the two hoses coming from the speed density setup work with a cone-type K&N filter???

FIPK Alternative??

Brt, that's a good question? I am not familiar with the newer engines and how they are set up. I am used to dealing with rusty iron. Fly
